Photo gallery: Olympic torch comes to Central North

On 19 May, the Olympic Flame set off on an epic whistle-stop tour of the UK for the Torch Relay to celebrate the 2012 Summer Olympics.

From Jersey to Cardiff, the beautiful golden torch covered a total distance of 8,000 miles over 70 days – passing Salvation Army churches along the way.

As Olympic fever spread across the nation, a handful of Salvation Army members were selected to carry the famous torch because of the inspirational work they have donefor their community.

For those Salvation Army members who weren’t holding the torch during the relay, they were on hand to welcome communities by playing music, providing refreshments and selling The War Cry.

And here are some pictures showing the Torch Relay as it passed through Central North division.
