If you are thinking about faith, are new to faith, or just wonder what we do at The Salvation Army, you are welcome to join us on a Sunday. Our worship meetings are relaxed, there is opportunity for prayer, reflection, relevant Bible teaching, creativity, singing, and lots of opportunity for you to participate. Everyone is welcome.

Our church services are at 11am each Sunday.  For our Sunday programme, check out the poster below.

There are usually activities after the service as follows:

1st Sunday of the month, we join together for a light lunch.

2nd Sunday of the month, we have our choir rehearsal.  Everyone is welcome.  Under 18s must bring an adult with them.

3rd Sunday of the month, our youth and children get together.

When there are 5 Sundays in a month, we aim to take the opportunity to do church away from the building.

There will be no PWC in February.   Our next session takes place in March, date to be announced.

Prayer, exercise and connecting with others are healthy habits to adopt.

With that in mind, we will meet monthly to prayer walk our community.  In order to include as many people as possible, this will take place on different days and at different times each month.  

Our prayer walks are open to everyone, not just our church congregation. 

You are very welcome to join us. 

Musical Tots, Tuesdays 9:30am-11:30am (Term-Time Only).

Come along with the children you care for to sing songs, play games and get to know other parents and carers.

The group costs £1 per family per week and snacks are provided for the children and the adults. 

Our baby and toddler lunch space is available after each of our toddler sessions; feel free to bring your own lunch with you and we will provide tea and coffee.

Our Employment Plus service is a free service that exists to support individuals around employment, benefits, housing and wellbeing in Hackney and beyond. 

Our Employment Plus service takes place weekly and alternates between a Thursday and a Friday. 

In February 2025, our Employment Coordinator will be with us on the following dates:

The Healthy Eating on a Budget Course, in partnership with Hackney Foodbank and Feast With Us, is a 6-week course that teaches participants to make healthy choices, to work as a team, and to cook a variety of dishes.  As part of the course, participants complete the food hygiene level 2 qualification. 

The next 6-week course begins on Thursday 16th January 2025.

We are hoping to launch the Starfish Schools Mentoring Programme in Hackney soon.  

Feedback from the pilot from the young people, parents and teachers:

• –  ‘Starfish is extremely supportive and nurturing to vulnerable children.’ (Teacher)
• –  ‘Starfish is an effective targeted programme, that flexibly fits into the school programme without any further demands from the school.’ (Teacher)
• –  ‘The children have blossomed in confidence throughout their time in the mentoring programme and are now ready for
  the transition to secondary school. They have acquired the necessary skills for this move and can confidently explain their emotions and how they can deal with their anxiety. After seeing the confidence these children have gained through the mentoring programme, I would confidently recommend this programme to any school.’ (Teacher)
• –  ‘Mentoring has helped me overcome my emotions and make
  me feel better about my situation. Outcomes Star helped me to understand my weak points and prioritise them to help me grow mentally.’ (Mentee)
• –  ‘The time you (the mentor) were having with my daughter, allowed me to almost have a little bit taken off. Her behaviourimproved immeasurably and her mental health improved and the family became a family again rather than a battleground.’ (Parent).

A snapshot of results.

100% of teachers said they would want Starfish to continue in their schools.

92% of mentees said that mentoring had helped to increase their confidence.

96% of mentees said that mentoring had helped them get on better at school.

93% of mentees made progress in at least two outcome areas.

71% mentees made progress in the area of feelings and emotions.

64% mentees made progress in the area of self-esteem.

Primary school boys: 100% mentees made progress in two areas: friends and relationships and how you use your time.

If you like singing, why not just us each month for our All-Age Choir?

Rehearsals will take place on the second Sunday of each month after our 11am church service.  If you don't attend our service, you are welcome to join us from 12:15 for refreshments; choir rehearsal will commence at 12:30. 

Under 18s must bring an adult with them.

Would you like to make a difference in the local community, could you volunteer with us?

We are looking for Adult volunteers, and young volunteers (aged 14-18) to take on various roles.  Check out the buttons below for information relating to current live role.

What can our volunteers expect from us?

Our uniform bank is able to offer brand new school uniform items, including: shirts, trousers, skirts, shorts, t-shirts and several other items.  

We will be accepting referrals from Monday 10th March 2025.  Please note that the uniform bank will be run by referral and appointment only.
