Bikers' toy drive for Aberdeen Salvation Army

Over a hundred motorbikers from across the country gathered en masse to boost our Christmas Present Appeal in Aberdeen.

Leather-clad men and women from Aberdeen Road Mutts and Aberdeen Granite City Scooter Club set off in a convoy from the city's beach front on Saturday December 19 before making their way up to deliver gifts at our citadel.

The event organiser was Philip Parker, a city centre doorman who wanted to help children that might otherwise have nothing to open on Christmas morning. 

He said: “I have young children of my own so I wanted to do something that would help kids who have nothing or next to nothing.

“I have a lot of friends who are bikers and asked them to get involved. Then the whole thing just grew arms and legs. I’m looking forward to seeing all the guys and girls on their bikes rolling up outside The Salvation Army.

“There’s a misconception about bikers and hopefully this will go some way to showing that they are actually very caring.” 

Lieutenant Helen Froud, leader of The Salvation Army in Aberdeen, said: “As a church and charity we're overwhelmed by the generosity that Philip and his friends have shown. This random act of kindness epitomises the real meaning of Christmas, the gift of love.

“The Salvation Army in Aberdeen supports many vulnerable families throughout the year. These toys are guaranteed to bring a smile on Christmas morning, thank you."
