Church and charity’s community pantomime a sell out! Oh yes it was!
The Salvation Army in Liverpool has provided festive fun to families with a community pantomime which put a fresh spin on an old time favourite.
The church and charity of Liverpool Stoneycroft and Old Swan, with its church and community centre (corps) located on Prescot Road, put on a performance of the classic story Cinderella but with a fresh look by adding jokes and famous pop songs.
The shows, which ran over two nights, sold out on both with over 100 members of the local community enjoying a joyous dose of festive fun.
The play was written by corps member Trish and her husband Billy, who also took on starring roles in the panto, and performed alongside local drama group Valley Community Theatre and other members of the Liverpool Stoneycroft and Old Swan corps.
Sam Tomlin, church leader of The Salvation Army in Liverpool Stoneycroft and Old Swan, says that the corps wanted to give something back to the local community this festive season. He said: "Trish and Billy are both so passionate about drama and we all thought it would be fun to host a panto. We wanted to host a show for the whole community which was affordable and brought a smile to people's faces, especially after the last few years with Covid.
“These are troubling and turbulent times that we are all living though, with so many affected by the cost of living crisis, so we hoped to provide a chance for the community to come together for a night of fun, and as it was a complete sell out, we feel that was achieved and want to thank all the cast for giving up their time to be involved!”
Over £150 was raised on the night which goes directly back into supporting the community through the work of The Salvation Army in Liverpool Stoneycroft and Old Swan. The local Tesco superstore generously donated refreshments for the intervals during both shows.
