The Salvation Army’s Dewdown House Care Home has embarked on a partnership with That Creative Thingy Wotsit, a local specialist service bringing writers, artists, and performers into care settings to create meaningful, joyful experiences. The collaboration is already transforming life at the home, with vibrant activities designed to spark connection, laughter and creativity among residents, staff and families.
One of the standout moments so far – a flamenco dancing workshop that turned the care home into a whirl of rhythm, colour and energy. Residents and staff clapped, swayed, and even took to their feet as the passionate beats of Spanish guitar filled the room. The session, held last month, was a sensory celebration proving that age is no barrier to joy, movement and new experiences.Clare, the Leader for Salvation Army Older People’s Services at Dewdown House Care Home, believes their partnership with That Creative Thingy Wotsit is transformative, creating meaningful, joyful moments that bring residents and staff together in laughter.
Clare said, “We are thrilled to be working with That Creative Thingy Wotsit. Their sessions are not just about fun—they’re about creating moments that truly matter. Whether it’s Flamenco dancing, arts and crafts, or a 60’s disco, these activities bring so much joy and connection to our residents and staff. It’s amazing to see everyone come together, laugh, and create memories that last a lifetime.”

Upcoming sessions include an arts and crafts workshop on 16th April and a 60’s disco on 7th May. For the disco, Dewdown House plans to go all out with a disco ball, decorations, and staff dressing up in retro attire, promising an unforgettable celebration of music and movement.
In addition to these creative activities, Dewdown House is also embracing Namaste Care, an internationally recognised program focused on providing compassionate, person-centred care for individuals with advanced illnesses, particularly those living with dementia.
Namaste Care emphasises a loving touch approach and a calm environment to honour the spirit within everyone in addition to creating meaningful experiences that bring comfort, dignity, and joy to those in their final stages of life, as well as their families and caregivers. It’s about helping people live fully, not just exist. For more information on Namaste Care visit their website: Namaste Care International.

Clare said, “Namaste Care is a beautiful way to connect with our residents on a deeper level. It’s about honouring their individuality and ensuring they feel valued and loved every single day. We’re proud to be part of this international movement and to see the positive impact it’s having on our community.”
Dewdown House Care Home continues to set a shining example of how creativity, compassion, and innovation can transform care for the better. Dewdown House is a forty-bed home that offers long term accommodation and respite for the elderly, located on the seafront in Weston-super-Mare.
