Erskine Salvation Army welcomes international leaders

A project to refurbish the Salvation Army's community hub in Erskine has been officially unveiled by leaders from the church and charity's international headquarters in London.

Commissioners Robert and Janine Donaldson cut the ribbon yesterday (Sunday March 18) to open the new entranceway at the Salvation Army community church on Kilpatrick Drive.

The commissioners were in Scotland for celebrations of the Salvation Army's work in the country, which first began in Glasgow in 1879 before an outpost was eventually established in Erskine in 1997.

Major David Wing and wife Major Miriam are the Salvation Army’s officers in charge at Erskine. Major David said: "As a church and charity we are there for anyone who needs practical or spiritual support. The changes we have made to our church will hopefully encourage more people to drop-in if they need our support.”

The Salvation Army in Erskine runs a range of programmes for people, many of whom are vulnerable and isolated. This includes a lunch club, jobs club, street ministry and Sunday worship.
