Salvation Army Pre-school wins first prize in Worcestershire Education Awards

The Salvation Army’s Pre-school in Droitwich has won first prize in the prestigious Worcestershire Education Awards, Early Years category.

The award finals were held at The Bank House Hotel, Brandford, on Thursday 3 April, where a certificate was presented to Pre-school manager, Karen Perry and her team.

The awards, organised by Newsquest media, invited the public to nominate the education setting that they feel are making the most difference to children and young people across Worcestershire. A panel of independent judges selected the category winners.

Karen Perry said: “We’re proud of the work we do at our Pre-school where we focus on providing quality care to children, working really closely with families and going the extra mile to help make their lives easier.

“Quality childcare is incredibly important, helping children to socialise, learn, play and become school ready. It’s also critical for parents who work hard to put food on the table, which is why we make sure the parents who take up Government funded childcare places don’t have to pay for extras.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this award and thank everyone who took time to nominate us.”

The Salvation Army Pre-school at Droitwich has doubled its staff count over the last six years to make sure children are more than adequately cared for, making sure little ones can have one-to-one time when needed. It partners with Droitwich Starting Well who provide sessions for parents on anything from behaviour management to cooking on a budget.

The Pre-school team has also linked up with The Salvation Army’s Friendship Group, held in the building next door, where older people read to the children and chat with them, sharing refreshments and giving both generations the chance for connection.

Providing support to families within our communities is very much part of The Salvation Army mission. We don’t just offer childcare in our registered settings, but also the added value of being able to help in other ways, such as signposting families to relevant local agencies for additional support. Preschools are an expression of the mission of The Salvation Army to love God and love others.
