Food bank appeals for local business partner

published on 7 Feb 2025

A food bank run by The Salvation Army in Swansea is appealing for a local company to become its main business partner to help them support people in the community.

The church on Morfydd Street in Morriston runs a food bank every other Wednesday between 0930-and-noon but has seen a local superstore withdraw as its main backer.

Major Stephen Brevitt is looking for a business to step in to help:

“At Morriston Salvation Army foodbank, we aim to help individuals and families who are struggling with food provision. We would be delighted to hear from any local food outlets or businesses who would like to support us by donating or collecting non-perishable food items.”

The Salvation Army works with some of the most vulnerable people in the city. Carole Turner helps run the food bank with her husband John and says it’s just one way they offer support:

“I have some understanding of those who need to ask for help to get food to feed their families as I’ve been in that position. There was a time when I was struggling financially and needed help from a food bank. It can be daunting when people come for the first time. People also get emotional support and a reminder that they are not alone when they come here. We offer a friendly face and someone they can talk to, who will listen to their worries and concerns.”

As a result of the cost-of-living crisis, the food bank at Morriston has seen a rise in need. Staff and volunteers at the church put together a bag of food and essential items for those who need it most. But they need a local business or food outlet to help with the provision of many items needed.

Food retailers interested in donating can contact Major Steve Brevitt at morriston@salvationarmy.org.uk or  01792 772707
