Join The Salvation Army in Woodbridge for a Christmas Day meal

published on 29 Oct 2024

The completion of refurbishment work at The Salvation Army in Woodbridge was marked recently with a special service and the announcement of a Christmas Day meal at the new, improved site.

The project involved the installation of disabled toilets and a shower for rough sleepers at the church and charity on New Street to better serve the community. Other changes included the extension of the kitchen in preparation for a hearty meal on Christmas Day, making full use of the new facilities.

Councillor Robin Saunders, Woodbridge Town Mayor, and Councillor Ruth Leach, Woodbridge deputy mayor, joined Major Alan Hill, Salvation Army Leader, at the service.

He said: “I want to thank all those at St John’s Church Hall in the town where The Salvation Army has been based while the works were completed. The improvements we have made will allow us to continue supporting those in need in a welcoming and modern environment, while also creating a comfortable and inclusive space for our congregation and community programs. It will let us move forward with new ventures, including starting a job club, offering a breakfast on Sundays and introducing an afternoon church service.”

The service included a dedication of the refurbished areas and a time of reflection on the mission and impact of The Salvation Army in Woodbridge. Guests were also able to tour the updated facilities.

With Christmas just a couple of months away, Major Hill added: “The Salvation Army will be hosting a concert on 22 December and a Christmas Day Meal. All are welcome to attend. We work in the community with local councils to support people going through tough times and will be offering a vote of thanks on the day for all the donations received and our wonderful volunteers and drivers.”
