Salisbury Salvation Army hosts brass band concert to support Homeless and Addiction Services

published on 28 Mar 2025

At the core of Salisbury, where the echoes of history meet the needs of today, the Salisbury Salvation Army is preparing to host a special evening of music and compassion. On Friday, 4th April, the iconic sounds of a Salvation Army Brass Band will fill the Salt Lane Church and Community Centre, as the Solent Fellowship Band takes to the stage to raise funds for The Salvation Army’s Homeless and Addiction Services.

This concert is more than just a musical event; it’s a celebration of community, history, and hope. The Salisbury Salvation Army holds a unique place in the story of the Salvation Army’s musical heritage. It was here, in the 19th century, that Charles Fry and his family pioneered the use of brass band music to connect with people during open-air services in Salisbury Market Square. Their innovative approach not only drew crowds but also transformed church music, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire today.

Now, over a century later, the tradition lives on. The Solent Fellowship Band, will perform a varied programme of music, offering something for everyone. From timeless hymns to popular melodies, the concert promises to be a night of uplifting entertainment. Every penny raised will go directly to supporting those in need.

Captain Martin Davison, leader of The Salvation Army in Salisbury said, “We really want to fill our hall and host a great night of music-making. The Solent Fellowship Band always delivers an interesting and varied programme, and the funds raised will make a real difference to the Salisbury Trust for the Homeless and our own Homelessness and Addictions Service. Please come along if you can!”
