Salvation Army brass bands bring Christmas cheer to London

There is something about hearing a Salvation Army brass band playing Christmas songs that invokes feelings of warmth, nostalgia, and joy.
Starting tomorrow, Thursday 5 December visitors to the official Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree lights switch-on can enjoy music by The Salvation Army’s Regent Hall band from 5.45pm.
From next week, starting on 9 December, commuters at Waterloo Station will be entertained by The Salvation Army band on the concourse as they come in and out of the capital from 7.30am - 10am.
Salvation Army Band leader, Paul Sharman, said:
“The Salvation Army has a rich musical tradition that started in 1878 and continues to thrive today.
“We’re delighted to be part of the celebrations at Trafalgar Square again this year and look forward to bringing the joy of Christmas to thousands of people in London over the coming days.”
London rail station carolling which run from 7.30am until 10am, include:
Monday 9 December - Waterloo
Friday 13 December - Victoria
Monday 16 December - London Bridge
Tuesday 17 December - Paddington
Wednesday 18 December - Charing Cross
In addition, Regent Hall Band will once again be playing at the Christmas Tree ceremony in Trafalgar Square on Thursday 5 December and will be out carolling in the West End (Oxford Street, Regent Street and Piccadilly) each Saturday morning - 7 December, 14 December, 21 December.
Out of public view, Salvation Army bands have also been invited to play in the Houses of Parliament in what is an annual Christmas tradition. The band will also play at 10 Downing Street for the Prime Minister’s Advent reception.
