Salvation Army gears up for the Fringe

In just under a week our Edinburgh City Corps will take centre stage at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Our community church on East Adam Street will be Venue 405 for a series of exciting shows from Wednesday August 12 to Saturday August 15.

One of the acts performing is Triquetta - a trio made up of singer Lisa Lulis, clarinetist Ellie Steemson, and Stuart Watson at the piano. Triquetta promises to deliver a repertoire ranging from classical music to musical theatre/cabaret.

We caught up with Triquetta singer Lisa ahead of the group's run to find out what's in store for Fringe audiences. She said: "This is Triquetta's first concert series together, and it is exciting to be launching Triquetta during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We are grateful to be collaborating with the Salvation Army, which has proven to be a great and welcoming venue, situated in the heart of Edinburgh, right on the Pleasance.

"We're on stage at 4pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and we would love to see as many people there as possible. Our show features an eclectic yet engaging mix of music from the classical genre, to art song, to a bit of opera, and a splash of musical theatre."

Lisa is also the primary vocal instructor at Perth College UHI, and there will be a student concert given after each of Triquetta's performances. She added: 'We're grateful for the chance for our students to showcase their talents. It's an incredible opportunity for them."

The student projects feature a show of dueling sopranos called The Good, The Bad, and The Soprano, a programme by singer-songwriter Prussia Snailham, and young crooner Scott Mitchell and his group Val Fierno.

Top of the bill at Venue 405 will be evening shows called Descions Decisions by concert singer Marjory Watson. Salvation Army singing sensation Matt Ramsay will also perform a one-off show next Saturday.

Youth Officer Captain Gavin Friday said: "It's great The Salvation Army is providing a performance space and a platform for young people to showcase their musical talent. Venue 405 is also a Christian space where we invite the community to connect and engage with our shows."
