Salvation Army launches 'winter warm' campaign in Aberdeen

An appeal to collect warm clothing for children in and around Aberdeen has been launched by the Salvation Army.
Lieutenant Helen Froud, who leads the church and charity on the Castlegate, is asking people to get involved to help families affected by fuel poverty.
Aberdeen Salvation Army is known for its Christmas Toy Appeal, which is aimed at families who need help with presents. But with temperatures already dropping below freezing, Lt Helen, her team of volunteers and local MP Kirsty Blackman are turning their focus to keeping kids warm over the winter.
Dressed in a rabbit onesie to help promote the campaign, Lt Helen said:
"Many families are struggling at Christmas. The Salvation Army offers new toys to parents who are referred to us locally. But Aberdeen is the UK's most northerly city and many families cannot afford to heat their homes properly in the harsh winter. This year we are also appealing for people to buy new children's socks, pyjamas, onesies or dressing gowns. We hope that each child will receive new, warm nightclothes as well as a selection of toys."
The 'Winter Warm' campaign is underway and the toys and new nightclothes will be given out the week beginning December 18. Donations of new toys and clothes can be made to the Citadel between 9am and 3pm on weekdays.
