Salvation Army urges footy fans to get onside with Goals for Good

With the Euro 2024 football championships kicking off next month, The Salvation Army today launches Goals for Good, a new fundraising campaign for football fans.
Anyone can get involved by organising a wear-your-kit to work or school day or organising a Goals for Good football watch party around the big Euro fixtures. A Goals for Good fundraising pack can be downloaded from salvationarmy.org.uk/goalsforgood and includes all you need to hold and promote an event. The money raised will help The Salvation Army blow the final whistle on homelessness and continue its support vulnerable people.
Lieutenant-Colonel Dean Pallant, Secretary for Communications at The Salvation Army said:
“Goals for Good is a brilliant way for communities throughout the UK to support our vital work while joining together to wear their football colours for England, Scotland or one of the other 22 nations taking part in Euro 2024. If you love the beautiful game but you’d also love to end homelessness, then please help The Salvation Army put some funds in the back of the net for this important cause.”
“The Salvation Army offers respite and shelter to people who are forced to sleep rough and support for people who live in precarious accommodation. But like other organisations that provide this kind of help it’s a struggle to run services due to the cost of living just as they are needed more than ever.
“Homelessness is deadly, destructive and isolating. More people than ever before are being dragged into rough sleeping, sofa surfing and unsafe emergency housing. The Salvation Army has a mission to end homelessness, but we can only do this with the help of the public.”
The Salvation Army has a long, rich association with football, this September holding our 13th Partnership Trophy which each year brings together some 28 teams from Salvation Army homelessness services across the UK. Last year, the church and charity held its inaugural football tournament for survivors of modern slavery.
The Salvation Army provides year-round help to people who are homeless through our local community churches and our hostels, which are called Lifehouses, as well as providing emergency shelters during extreme weather.
