Salvation Army’s new Farnworth Church and Community Centre opened by Territorial Commanders of UK and Ireland

Major Ian Kennedy, Territorial Commander Commissoner Clive Adams, and Mrs Amy Golbourne, the oldest soldier in the Corps, open the new Centre

The Salvation’s Army Church and Community Centre in Farnworth opened their new building this weekend, which was attended by Territorial Commanders of the UK and Ireland, Commissioners Clive and Marianne Adams, with the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton in attendance.

Territorial Commander Clive Adams cut the ribbon opening the centre at 11.30 am on Saturday 18th January 2014. Together with the Commanding Officers of Farnworth Corps – or Church – Ian and Christine Kennedy, Mrs. Amy Golbourne, the oldest soldier in the Corps at 92, and Esther Peachman, the youngest member at 20 months, celebrated the opening together with members of the local community and Divisional Leaders and finance team.

“We’re delighted to welcome everyone to the new Farnworth Salvation Army Church and Community Centre,” says Major Ian. “Our vision for the new corps is to have the doors open 7 days a week! We meet for family friendly worship every Sunday and are always delighted to welcome new people.”

Farnworth, which first opened its door as a Salvation Army centre in April/May 1881, is a Corps which conducts various services for the local community – from the toddler group, which has transitioned from the local Trinity Methodist Church, and meets every Monday and Tuesday 9.15 – 11 AM, to the New Hope Café, which will open at 12.00 noon on Monday 3rd February, Majors Ian and Christine are filled with enthusiasm for the work ahead.

The Territorial Commander for the UK and Ireland Territory of The Salvation Army, Commissioner Clive Adams, said, “Commissioner Marianne and I wish to send special greetings to the people of Farnworth on this very important day. It is wonderful to have new premises in which to worship God together, as well as have as a facility to serve the community.  We rejoice over each individual who will spend time here, finding a warm fellowship, a caring community and, most of all, a loving Saviour, through the witness and ministry of the Corps Family.”
