Which carol will be top of the pops in Whittlesey?

published on 20 Dec 2024

The Salvation Army at Whittlesey is bringing the spirit of Christmas alive this weekend with an interactive carol service.

For the first time, attendees at ‘The Studio’ have been able to vote for their favourite carols and the top five will be sung in the service which gets underway at 5pm on Sunday. Voting closed last weekend. Will Hark the Herald Angels Sing be a festive hit or Joy to the World jump to the top of the charts? The results won’t be revealed till the service starts.

Major Lorraine Chaundy leads The Studio at Whittlesey Salvation Army which opened as an art studio two years ago to provide church with a difference. She said the service will be a celebration truly shaped by the community.

She said: “Most of the people who come to our art studio are non-churchgoers, but despite this our attendees  asked if we could put on a carol service. We wanted them to have the type of service they would enjoy the most and this will be a shared experience, bringing people closer together. What better way to connect than through music and creativity?”

The studio offers art and craft activities throughout the week, doing church with a difference, and Lorraine said she thought the service fits in perfectly.

Lorraine added: “We are really an art studio offering art and craft for wellbeing so this service will be done studio style. We won’t have rows of chairs set up like a traditional church and it will be quite relaxed.”

The service will also feature a gift reveal with presents telling the story of Christmas,  and Lorraine said she is sure the evening will be one to remember.

The evening gets underway at 5pm on December 22 at The Studio at Church Street, Whittlesey and all are welcome.
