Hannah Hylton, a volunteer for youth services at The Salvation Army, has organised the event, and said, "We see so many young people struggling with self-esteem and mental health, especially after the challenges of recent years. This day is about reminding girls that they matter—that taking care of themselves isn’t selfish, it’s essential. The response from the community has been incredible, and we can’t wait to give these girls a day where they feel valued and inspired. A big thank you to the companies that have come through for us – we appreciate their commitment to youth mental health."

The idea for the “Self-Love” day grew out of The Salvation Army’s weekly youth clubs, which provide a lifeline for local teenagers, offering positive activities and mentorship to steer them away from risks like drugs and crime. Recognising a growing need for mental health support among teens, Hannah and her team of four volunteers designed the event to foster self-care, personal growth, and connection.
