Furze Hill House

We provide a residential  service to older people over the age of 65. The people we support have a range of support needs and conditions which prevents them from remaining in their family home.

Some of our residents need support due to living with dementia. Others present with a variety of physical needs consistent with the ageing process or medical conditions.

We want everything we do at Furze Hill House to be driven by the needs, abilities and aspirations of our residents in a person centred way.

The home places a high value on respecting the privacy and dignity of the people who live here and we aim to create an inclusive environment for all.

We provide 40 bedrooms for single occupation. All bedrooms have en-suite shower, toilet and washbasin. Bedrooms are all light and airy, benefit from large double glazed windows and thermostatically controlled under-floor heating. All bedrooms benefit from either a garden, woodland or countryside view.

Upon arrival at Furze Hill House, you enter into the ‘Village Square’. This galleried area is the hub of the home. Both ground and upper floor bedroom wings lead off the Village Square. On the ground floor the Village Square gives access to the restaurant, kitchen, main lounge, kiosk shop, offices, stairs, lifts to the first floor, café area, bathrooms, toilets, hairdressing salon, Mildred Duff Chapel, staff service areas and laundry.

On the first floor, the gallery overlooking the ‘village square’ has a seating area and a small library that is restocked by the library service on a regular basis.

There are two enclosed landscaped sensory gardens, with panoramic views across the woods and surrounding countryside. The sensory gardens are accessed from inside the building.

There are two lounges, the gallery seating area as well as a number of smaller seating areas. The main lounge is situated on the ground floor.

A large well equipped laundry ensures that clothing can be returned to residents in a short space of time.

A spacious dining room overlooking the garden is situated on the first floor.

The activities leader arranges a wide variety of activities to suit individual abilities. A programme of activities is planned for each day. This includes craft, cooking, physical fitness and zumba.

Key workers are allocated to each resident. Keyworker spend time with residents individually every week.

Morning prayers are held three times a week with a Sunday service. These are all voluntary.

Theme days are held on a regular basis, celebrating cultures and traditions.

Outings are arranged to places of interest and are inclusive to everyone due to the use of wheelchair friendly transport. Outings locally are arranged by key workers for each individual resident

Furze Hill Home has strong links with the local community.

The Management within the home consists of the Home manager (the Registered Manager), Head of Care and Administration Manager. They are available daily from 8am through to 5pm weekdays and on some evenings and weekends.  Management are available on call in case they need to attend the home in the event of an emergency.

Throughout the day a Team Leader leads the shift and takes responsibility for the staff and residents. They are supported by a team of care staff. The number of staff may differ; this is determined by needs of residents.  We use an evidenced based tool to determine staffing levels.  Care staff work 7am -2pm and 2pm -9pm. Management staff are supernumerary.

Night staff are on duty from 9pm- 7am, they are also supported by an on call team leader if they need any further support.

We have an Activities Leader and a Salvation Army Chaplain who work closely with the care team to provide a service to the residents and to give them the opportunity to be active and engage in activities on a daily basis.

All staff are qualified and undertake mandatory and additional training throughout the year in order to provide a high standard of care taking into account current legislation, guidelines and practice.

The Directors of the Older People’s Services provide 24 hour on call support to the home.
