Community & Events Fundraising FAQs

We are thrilled you are thinking of ways you can fundraise for us, thank you for your support in the work that we do. The great thing about fundraising is there are so many different ways to get involved and we appreciate each and every one of our fundraisers, whether you want to take on a marathon or host a quiz night. There really is an activity for everyone! 

We offer a range of challenge events for you to choose from – which includes running, skydiving, cycling and trekking. If you would like to take part in an event that we currently do not offer charity places for, please get in touch with us  by emailing challenge@salvationarmy.org.uk and we’ll see what we can do to help.

We also offer other ways you can get involved too – such as fundraising at home and fundraising at Christmas – so do keep an eye out on our website as all of our events are easily navigated through our main page.   

If you are deciding to do your own thing then we please ask you to register your activity here so that we can provide you with all the support and goodies you need to be a Sally Army champion. 

Funds raised through your incredible efforts can go towards any Salvation Army project or Corps (Salvation Army Church) close to your heart. You can have a look here to see our extensive range of services we provide and you can search for your local centre by entering your postcode into this map. If you are not sure where you would like your fundraising to go, we will ensure it goes to where it is needed most.

The easiest and most efficient way to collect funds are by using an online fundraising page. You can go here to create your own page by selecting the orange ‘fundraise for us’ button. After you’re all set up, you can share your new page on your social media, in emails or texts with friends, family and colleagues to raise vital funds. Please get in touch with us at challenge@salvationarmy.org.uk if you need any assistance in setting this up.  

You are also welcome to collect cash donations by printing out this sponsorship form (see below for how to pay in your offline funds). Please follow our Money Box Label Guidance if you are collecting cash donations.

1.) You can make a donation to your online fundraising page of the amount you have raised offline. You can then edit your fundraising page to include this under ‘offline donations’ so that the total amount you have raised both online and offline is reflected in your total.  

2.) You can easily pay in your fundraising via our online payment platform.

3.) By cheque: You should make these payable to The Salvation Army. Please mark them clearly with your name and the name of your event on the reverse and send them, along with your money return form and any completed sponsor forms, to:

Gift Aid is a tax relief allowing UK charities to reclaim an extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation made by a UK taxpayer. That means that The Salvation Army can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you raise, but there are some rules that apply.

If you pay less Income Tax / or Capital Gains tax in the current tax year than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

If the sponsor is connected to the participant, their donations only qualify for Gift Aid if the participant pays the full cost of their involvement in the event so that all sponsorship money raised goes to the charity.

Our fundraisers are incredibly important to us; whether you sign up for an event or register your own fundraising activity, you will be supported every step of the way. All our fundraisers receive our jam-packed fundraising guide full of ideas and inspiration and we also have a dedicated team ready to assist you with anything you may need to make the most out of your event. We also provide our fundraisers with exclusive access to our resource centre with all sorts of digital, branded materials for you to use in your fundraising.

Once you have completed your fundraising event, you'll receive a certificate of appreciation to congratulate you on your achievement. All our fabulous fundraisers who raised over £100 are entitled to a free Sally Army t-shirt which we will post to you upon your request.  

For events where we offer charity places such as the London Marathon, we provide complimentary training vests as well as other bespoke items for our fundraisers. Please refer to the event pages for more information.

We get many requests to promote our fundraisers’ events and their fundraising pages on our social media and it would unfortunately not be possible to share them all.  

We also find that a fundraiser's own personal social media posts are much more of an effective way to share their event and encourage support, because it utilises their personal networks and connections in a way that a Sally Army post would not be able to.  

Every Friday, on our Community and Events Facebook page we feature an inspiring #FridayFundraiser story about an individual or a group who has done something amazing to raise funds – so please do get in touch after your event with your story and pictures as we would love the opportunity to feature your story.  

If you are under 18, you must show these terms and conditions to your parent or guardian, and they must contact us by emailing challenge@salvationarmy.org.uk to confirm responsibility for complying with them before you can proceed with your fundraiser.

We have a wide range of digital resources available on our fundraising resources hub, where you are welcome to print them out to use for the promotion of your fundraising or for use during your fundraising event. Please get in touch with us if you are looking for something that is not featured on the resources hub and we will try our best to provide it.
