Charity Shop

The Salvation Army has nearly 200 community charity shops around the UK and Ireland. In addition, there are around 200 shops that are run by our Trading Company, offering around 400 amazing places to volunteer!

As part of The Big Help Out, we are looking for some new charity shop superstars! People who'd like to help us care for our communities and our environment by being a part of finding brand new homes for pre-loved clothes and a range of household goods and collectables.

We have roles to suit all skill sets: from behind the scenes to front of house, window-dressing to social media, donation sorting to customer service. For example our Nunhead shop in London’s SE15 is looking for someone to sort and price all the book donations, and a Graphic and Communications Specialist to provide artistic skills creating promotional materials for the shop.

Volunteering is a great way of meeting new people, using existing skills or gaining new ones. For young people it also provides some useful experience to put on your CV ready for your first or next career move.

Wherever you decide to volunteer, you'll get a warm welcome. You can start from just two hours per week (or more if you want to), however much time you can spare, we would love to hear from you.

Some of the fab tasks that our volunteer’s get involved with, include:

  • Creating inviting themed and seasonal window displays
  • Greeting and helping customers
  • Promoting the shop using social media
  • Spotting and promoting fashion brands
  • Keeping the shop clean and tidy
  • operating the till
  • sorting and pricing donations of clothing, books and bric-a-brac
  • Making minor repairs to and cleaning donated items ready for sale
  • providing great customer service by providing a friendly face to customers

If you don't want to apply online, then just pop into a shop near you. All we ask is that your views are in sympathy with the aims and objectives of The Salvation Army.
