Last year,  The Salvation Army nationally distributed more than 76,000 gifts! This year, we are expecting the number of families requesting help to rise as a result of the cost of living crisis.  

Sanctuary 21  Salvation Army church will be running our Christmas Present Appeal, collecting donated presents by Monday 9th December.

You can help us spread the joy of Christmas to families whose children would otherwise not receive a gift. 

Please support your our Christmas Present Appeal by donating new, unwrapped toys and gifts for children who might not otherwise receive a Christmas present. The gifts will then be wrapped and distributed to those in need.

Suggested Gift List for Children and Young People

We believe every child deserves a new gift at Christmas so we are unable to take used or second hand items for the Christmas Present Appeal.

• 0-3 years:  dolls, teddy bears, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, puzzles
• 3-5: dolls and action figures, cars, lorries, colouring sets, pencils, crayons, books, puzzles
• 5-9: educational games & toys, stationery (colouring sets, pencils, crayons, school sets), books, puzzles, wordsearch, crosswords
• 9-12: games and toys, stationery, books, t-shirts, hair accessories, gloves, scarves, hats
• 13-16: books, make-up and toiletries (please try to ensure non-allergic ingredients if possible), gloves, scarves, hats, t-shirts, hair accessories and gift vouchers

Over the years, millions of children and young people have benefited from gifts donated to The Salvation Army.

By giving a gift to our Christmas Present Appeal you can make a real difference in someone’s life at Christmas.

4pm Sunday Worship 

We have a a weekly Sunday Worship Service in our Church on Queen Street. 

Coffee and tea is available from 3.30pm.

Our service is very relaxed, there is a time of sung worship and a word from the bible, no one has to do anything that makes them uncomfortable. Why not come along to one of our services and see for yourself?

As a Christian Church, the Salvation Army is also available for Weddings, Funerals and Dedication ceremonies.

The Foodbank is currently only open on Tuesdays between 10.00am & 12.30om (*Please note we are currently not open for Foodbank on Thursdays)

The Foodbank is open Tuesdays 10.00 - 12.30pm Working alongside our partners the Durham Christian Partnership and Trussell Trust we provide Food parcels to support people in our community who need a helping hand when times are tough. To access food bank you will need an e-voucher from a support agency you are working with (e.g. social services, health visitors etc.) or you can speak to someone at Citizens Advice.

Once you a have your slip bring it along with some I.D. and you can access a food parcel.

Teddy Club

Teddy Club babies and toddler group at Crook Salvation Army Church is currently closed.

It will be advertised locally when the club is set to recommence

The Victory Programme gives opportunity for people to learn to cook on a budget. No matter what your cooking skills are you can come along experience good fellowship with other participants and learn to cook healthy meals with minimum cost.

The programme is currently on hold. It will be advertised locally when it is ready to recommence.

IT’S IN THE BAG!

Over the summer the Weardale AAP’s ‘It’s In the Bag! Project’ has delivered bags full of store cupboard essentials to  families whose children live or go to school in the Weardale AAP area.

Every fortnight a team of Salvation Army volunteers helped distribute the bags to families in the Crook/Tow Low area who are feeling the pinch a little more than usual due to the impact of Covid-19. The 4th Sept 2020 was the final delivery and the Weardale AAP have reported how the project has been a lifeline to many families. Thanks to all involved.
