How to leave a gift in your Will

Remembering The Salvation Army in your Will means your compassion can live on and your support will enable us to be there for those who need us the most.

We understand that leaving a gift in your Will is an important decision, but we have information, support and guidance available to make the process as easy as possible. When experiencing a major change in life such as getting married, divorced, having or adopting children or when grandchildren join the family, it’s important to ensure your Will is kept up to date. Read about more reasons to make a Will here.

Michael chose to leave a gift to The Salvation Army after having to make a new life when his wife died. He felt that the best way to do this was by helping other people and found the process easier than he thought.

There are three different types of gift you can make to support the work of The Salvation Army in your Will:

  • A percentage of your estate – this is typically a portion of what is left after you have remembered family and friends. (A residuary gift).
  • A sum of money (A pecuniary gift).
  • A specific item, such as an antique, painting, property or shares that we would sell.

How to include The Salvation Army in your Will

  2. Wording for your Will 
    To help you discuss your wishes with a solicitor, we’ve included some recommended wording for the different types of gift here:  

    I give £X (or the item specified) to The Salvation Army (Registered Charity No. 214779 and in Scotland SC009359), 1 Champion Park, London, SE5 8FJ for its general charitable purposes and direct that the receipt of the Legacy Manager or of any other appropriate officer for the time being of The Salvation Army shall be a good discharge to my Executors.

    I give X% of the residue of my estate to The Salvation Army (Registered Charity No. 214779 and in Scotland SC009359), 1 Champion Park, London, SE5 8FJ for its general charitable purposes and direct that the receipt of the Legacy Manager or of any other appropriate officer for the time being of The Salvation Army shall be a good discharge to my Executors.
