Christmas comes early to Carmarthen thanks to The Salvation Army

Christmas came early to Carmarthen on Wednesday (29 November) as The Salvation Army’s brass band played festive carols in Guildhall Square.
The 12 piece band had travelled all the way from Tenby to entertain shoppers in the town centre in lead-up to Christmas.
They played a selection of festive favourites, including ‘Oh Come all ye Faithful’, ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing’, ‘Silent night’ and ‘Little Star of Bethlehem’.
Captain Neil Duquemin of The Salvation Army in Carmarthen said, “It was a chilly day today in Carmarthen, but the performance by the Tenby Salvation Army band definitely had a warm reception from everyone who heard it.
“Since August, The Salvation Army has been visiting Guildhall Square every Wednesday with our mobile canteen to offer a cup of tea or coffee and a chat to shoppers and to let local people know about the services we provide in Carmarthen.
“The performance by the Tenby Salvation Army band added a nice Christmas touch to today’s visit and I’d like to thank everyone who stopped to speak to us and made a donation.”
The Salvation Army’s mobile canteen will be back in Guildhall Square on Wednesdays between 11.00am and 3.00pm in the new year.
Based at 108-109 Lammas Street, The Salvation Army runs a community centre, cafe and a charity shop.
The community centre helps people at risk of homelessness in Carmarthen by providing them with advice, guidance, clothes and food.
The coffee shop provides a relaxed meeting space in Carmarthen and sells tea and coffee, freshly made sandwiches and cold snacks.
The charity shop is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm every Monday to Friday and 10.00am to 2.00pm on Saturdays and sells good quality clothing, bric-a-brac, books and DVDs at affordable prices.
