Community church in Edinburgh city centre is taking centre stage at the Fringe.

Competition is tough on the Fringe but Captain Jennifer believes The Salvation Army's programme of events from Monday August 22 to Saturday August 27 is a much-needed addition.

Performers at venue 405 include Sarah Grace, Yorick Jackson, the NHS Choir and comedian David Standen, who appeared on the BBC One programme Paul O’Grady: The Sally Army and Me.

Sarah’s show An Act Of Faith is based on the lessons she has learnt in life and her testimony so far, while Yorick is sharing John’s Gospel entirely from memory in his unique style.

The Salvation Army community church is also offering hospitality from this week, with vintage afternoon teas being served in the conservatory area of the hall from August 19 and August 23 to 27.

Captain Jennifer said: “The Fringe is made up of a broad range of performing arts. It’s a secular festival but we offer an alternative by providing a venue that features God-honouring fun and engaging contributions. It would be a shame if The Salvation Army hid away and pretended the Fringe wasn’t happening on our doorstep. We ought to be present in our community which for us in August is the city of Edinburgh and the arts community. We need to be the presence of Jesus at the Fringe and join the party.

“We see participating at the Fringe as a missional opportunity where we can share the gospel message and join in with the city celebrations.”
