Egg-cellent support sees 220 Easter eggs donated to foodbank

Over 200 Easter eggs donated to Prescot food bank
A local church and charity received a donation of 220 Easter eggs to its food bank that will bring smiles to the faces of struggling families.
As the rise in the cost of living continues to push more people into poverty, The Salvation Army in Prescot, located on Warrington Road, received the generous donation from local business-woman, Becky Martindale, who runs a fitness group. Becky challenged her group attendees to collect and donate Easter eggs for The Salvation Army. She said: “Times are so hard for everyone at the minute and if I can help a child wake up on Easter morning with an Easter egg then my heart is full. For some people Easter eggs might be nothing, but for kids who haven’t got anything, it’s so much.”
The Salvation Army in Prescot supports the Trussell Trust which runs its food bank out of the church and charity’s community centre each week, which it has done for over 12 years. The food bank supports members of the community with food parcels on Wednesdays from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, working with referrals to the Big Help Project, a Knowsley charity, as well as referrals from organisations including schools, doctors and citizens advice.
Major Bryn Hargreaves, church leader of The Salvation Army in Prescot said: “Easter eggs are a wonderful opportunity to share with children the good news of Jesus through the Easter story, and who doesn’t like receiving an Easter egg?!
“Donations like these help us put smiles on the faces of many families who are struggling like never before. The rise in the cost of living has affected everyone and many people are now using food banks when they never thought they’d be in a position to before.”
Local funeral directors, Jagger and Berry, Prescot, is another local business that will be collecting and donating Easter eggs to The Salvation Army for distribution.
