The Salvation Army has thanked Cardiff City Football Club for helping support families in need over the festive season.
Two of the club’s first-team players Curtis Nelson and Robert Glatzel handed over new toys to the church and charity for their Christmas Present Appeal.
Speaking about the occasion, Cardiff City defender Curtis said: “As a squad, we are happy to put our support behind The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal. They provide an incredible service to those who really need it. It has been a tough year for our community, and we hope that these donations can make a difference.”
Major George Baker, The Salvation Army’s divisional leader for the South and Mid-Wales division, said the donation would bring hope and joy to children who might otherwise go without on Christmas morning.
He said: “We’re delighted to have the support of the Bluebirds this year and pass on our thanks to the staff who kindly donated at Cardiff City Stadium, the Vale Resort Training Facility and the CCS Testing Centre.
“As a church and charity, we are inspired by the Christmas message of hope to reach out to families in need with presents for children who might otherwise miss out on the joy of opening a gift.
“Through our frontline work in Cardiff and across south Wales, we have seen first-hand the impact of the pandemic on the families we support. This year has been difficult for so many and we appreciate the generosity people continue to show.”
Donations of brand new unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items can be dropped off at The Salvation Army’s Cardiff East community church (Walker Road/Janet Street, Splott CF24 2EG).
The Salvation Army will sort and distribute the gifts to children and families in the area through their networks and via local groups and social services.
Gifts can include anything from soft and educational toys for the very youngest child, to games, toys, books and accessories for older children.
In addition to providing presents, The Salvation Army will also be providing food hampers in the run up to Christmas as well as fresh meals for people to eat in their own homes on Christmas Day.
