Keeping cool this week, especially for those sleeping rough
published on 23 Jul 2021
During the excessive high temperatures this week, some of our local churches and Homelessness support services have been helping rough sleepers keep cool.
Our rough sleeper outreach team in Coventry have been busy handing out sunscreen and bottles of water to people experiencing street homelessness. The team walk about the streets of Coventry morning and evening up to five times a week looking to help rough sleepers into accommodation, or to provide other types of help if people aren’t ready to come inside.
Our Homelessness services manager at Coventry, Sharon West said:
“We remind people who are sleeping rough about how excessive heat and sun can be dangerous to the body. It is important to seek shade and drink water regularly in these conditions. Sun screen can also be expensive, so as well as providing water, we also provide this free to anyone who needs it”.
We have been there for people, during heat waves, blizzards and even floods. Our local churches and Homelessness support services supply hot food, emergency shelter (where possible) and a listening ear to those affected by unpredictable British weather.
Please support our work as we help those who need us the most, whatever the weather.
