Knitting group share the love this Valentine’s Day

More than a hundred knitted love hearts have been left on railings in an Essex town to help cheer people up as they pass by.

The Knit and Natter group based at Hadleigh Temple Salvation Army has been busy during the latest lockdown creating the hearts in the run up to Valentine’s Day to spread some love to their neighbours

Each of the hand-made red hearts is sewn together and secured with a Bible verse and then fixed outside the church and charity’s building in the centre of the town.

Liz Orford, a member of Hadleigh Temple Salvation Army formed the group when she retired four years ago to help get people together to share their hobby over a cup of tea and a chat. During lockdown their meetings have continued over zoom.

Liz said: “We have worked on different projects over the years, such as poppies for Remembrance Day and Angels at Christmas but for Valentine’s Day this year, we really wanted to share some love and hope with our community, especially at this time when many of us cannot be together with those we love. 

Local people walking past the church on their way to the shops or out for exercise are invited to take one of the hearts for themselves or a friend.  An example of one of the Bible verses attached to the hearts is 1 Corinthians Chapter 13, verse 4: Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
