New Lifehouse opens in Widnes

Our new service to provide homelessness accommodation and support in Widnes, near Liverpool, was officially opened this morning.

Brennan Lodge is a brand new, specially designed building that will be more than just a shelter for the residents who will come to call it home.

There are facilities to learn new skills and staff will work with residents to create a programme of training specifically designed to meet their needs.

Officially opened by local Mayor Ellen Cargill, The Salvation Army-run service will operate in partnership with Halton Borough Council and Halton housing Trust to help transform people's lives.

Mitch Menagh, Director of Homelessness Services at The Salvation Army, said: "Sadly in 2015 we still need services for people who find themselves homeless.

"We will do our best to combat homelessness by providing a quality service at Brennan Lodge."

Mayor Cargill said: "This is a wonderful building and we are honoured to have the expertise and experience of The Salvation Army at the helm."

Jane Strickland, manager of Brennan Lodge, said: "We will work with residents on a one-to-one basis to offer them practical support and a listening ear."
