Pre-loved school uniform market provides clothing for over 400 children

Families in Cannock have benefitted from a scheme supplying pre-loved school uniforms for free.

The partnership includes The Salvation Army in Cannock, Staffordshire County Council, local supermarkets, the ‘People Helping People’ fund, together with local families, who donate clothes, no longer needed by school children.

The most recent pre-loved market was held during the Easter school holidays and there are plans to run another session in the summer holidays. Cannock Salvation Army on Walhouse Street helped 408 children to get replacement clothes for school.

The pre-loved market stocked everything from blazers, shirts, trousers and skirts to PE kits and shoes for children aged three – 16 years of age. 70 per cent of the children benefitting from the donated items were of primary school age.

The pre-loved market has been running during school breaks since August 2020 to help struggling local families. Captain Lydia Bartlett, leader of The Salvation Army in Cannock said: “The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on our communities and we all know how expensive school uniforms can be even at the best of times. So many parents have thanked us for running this market and while we can help, we will continue to do so.”

The next pre-loved school uniform market will run at The Salvation Army in Cannock from 16 August for two weeks.
