Project Malachi given unanimous go head by town councillors

Last night, in the presence of Redbridge residents and Project Malachi supporters, Town Councillors voted unanimously to grant planning permission for The Salvation Army’s ‘Pop Up’ Hostel project in Ilford.  The pioneering initiative led by The Salvation Army aims to end rough sleeping in the area. 

The Salvation Army developed Project Malachi to build its first ‘Pop Up’ Hostel out of shipping containers in Chadwick Road, Ilford.  The site is just a couple of minutes’ walk from its church and community centre premises in Clements Road, and behind the Town Hall in Ilford Town Centre. 

Captain John Clifton from The Salvation Army in Ilford said: "I am absolutely delighted that we have received planning permission.  Our application received unanimous, cross-party support and this is yet another example of how the whole of the community is rallying to help those who are sleeping rough.  This is a huge milestone for the project that means we will be able to begin the tendering process.  We cannot wait to have the accommodation and the workshop for Recycles, our bike refurbishment social enterprise, in place.  Our ambitious vision is another step closer to reality.”
