Salvation Army and St David’s Cardiff to make Christmas wishes come true
published on 11 Nov 2016
The Salvation Army and St David’s Cardiff wants to ensure that every child in South Wales receives a gift this year with its Christmas Toy Appeal.
The Salvation Army church and charity have been chosen as one of 12 charities that will benefit from the initiative. Running from 10th November – 23rd December, St David’s are asking customers to buy an extra gift for a child in need and drop it off at the Donation Station. A team of Christmas helpers will be making sure that gifts are delivered safely in time to start the festive celebrations.
Major Jeff Winterburn, Corps Officer at Salvation Army Canton Corps said: “Over the years I’ve worked with many mums and dads who come to us in a state of need and helplessness at Christmas. To see them supported and encouraged through the provision of gifts and hampers for them and their children is very special, and seeing the hope reappear in their eyes is simply wonderful”.
“The Salvation Army here in Wales is indebted to St David’s for the opportunity to be a part of this year's Christmas Toy Appeal and along with them we hope this one to be the best that they have ever had in terms of receiving gifts that will allow us to help others. We encourage people to be generous, helping bring hope to others this Christmas”.
“I’ve seen first-hand how a simple toy given to child at Christmas can bring joy to them. On behalf of those who will turn to The Salvation Army this Christmas for help, we thank you for the support and gifts that you give”.
Steven Madeley, general manager for St David’s, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be able to support these fantastic local charities to help bring some Christmas magic to the children and young people they represent. Christmas is such an exciting time for us all as we give and receive gifts with family and loved ones, but for many children across South Wales this is a luxury that they don’t have.
“We are asking those who are coming to the centre to buy gifts and stocking fillers to pick up something extra that will make a big difference to a child in need. Last year, over 5,200 of our generous shoppers donated to the appeal, and we want 2016 to be even bigger and better.”
Shoppers who want to take part can head over to the Donation Station, located near the Clogau store, to pick up a Christmas chocolate coin to receive an exclusive 10 per cent off purchases at Hamleys.
