Salvation Army Debt Advice Service launched on Isle of Man

A new debt advice centre run by The Salvation Army, which is a well-known church and charity, to support people experiencing financial problems with debt is opening at its new site on the Isle of Man Business Park.
Appointments give people the opportunity to confidentially review their situation with trained staff who can offer support such as negotiating with creditors and drawing up payment plans.
Leader of The Salvation Army, Captain Dylan Nieuwoudt said: “We understand that some individuals and families face financial difficulties so, by launching this free debt advice service, I hope we can support local people in their challenges today and to make them aware that they don’t have to walk alone in the highly stressful circumstances of debt.
“For many years our church has been supporting the Isle of Man’s community with a practical assistance programme, which includes offering help with white-goods, school uniforms, clothing, furniture, gas deposits and energy bills.
“We want to take this a step further and provide a more holistic approach through a debt advice service.”
Captain Nieuwoudt continued: “We can offer a sympathetic listening ear along with the necessary financial advice and life skills. Our mission is to see people’s lives transformed and to be set free from the burden of their debts. Our desire is to give people a hand-up in life, not just a hand-out.”
People who are worried about debt can contact Debbie White, The Salvation Army Debt Advice Co-ordinator on 01624 675702 or iomdas@salvationarmy.org.uk to discuss debt advice or book an appointment. Sessions are available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 3pm at The Salvation Army centre on Ballacottier Crescent, Isle of Man Business Park from 28 September.
Worship services are continuing at Pulrose Methodist church, 10.30am on Sundays from 20th September and everyone is welcome to attend.
