Top brass: musical kids can join in with Salvation Army Gala Concert

published on 27 Sep 2017

The renowned Birmingham Citadel Salvation Army brass band is offering children the chance to perform at its Gala Performance this Saturday, 30 September at the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre in Birmingham to round off the Birmingham Citadel’s 125th Birthday celebrations.

Young, hopeful musicians can simply turn up with their instruments to the free Youth Brass Workshop which takes place between 4 and 5pm on the Saturday afternoon to rehearse two pieces and get performance tips from special guest, David Daws before their star turn at the big show that same evening.

The Gala itself starts at 7pm and features a virtuoso performance on the euphonium by David Daws plus a score of popular pieces by the Birmingham Citadel Band, conducted by Gavin Lamplough.  Guest compere on the night is former member of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) Alwyn Green.

In the second half of the show, the young participants of the Youth Brass Workshop will take their place on the stage to show off what they’ve learned at their afternoon session.

Tickets to the Birmingham Citadel Gala Concert at the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre, Edgbaston Park Road, Birmingham B15 2UA are £8 (£5 concessions) and can be purchased from the box office by phoning 0121 472 9585 or emailing ruddockpac@kes.org.uk.

This year’s annual Gala Concert will be even more special as it’s the Birmingham Citadel’s 125th Anniversary and young participants to the Youth Brass Workshop will get to watch the entire concert for free.

Last weekend the Birmingham Citadel marked its 125th Birthday with a series of outdoor concerts in the heart of the city.
