Kerry
When Kerry was planning her first major solo art exhibition she always had in mind to combine it with some fundraising for a good cause through the show.
After coming across The Salvation Army IHQ gallery space, Kerry realised that it was the perfect venue for her exhibition. Her aim was to generate awareness and money through the love of art, and belief in the two causes she chose to focus her fundraising on: Homelessness and Modern Slavery.
“I Iearnt so much about the work of the Salvation Army through my experience and I wished I could have raised more. Through my campaigning I was able to generate a lot of awareness about the Salvation Army’s work with the homeless and modern day slavery.
“I raised in total £1,207.50 - £540 through Just Giving page plus £127.50 in gift aid. The £540 was matched by my full time employer, Telereal Trillium.
"People who engaged with my fundraising did so because they loved my work and the work of the Salvation Army. It wasn’t easy to raise money without climbing a mountain or running a race or sleeping rough, which are some of the things people do to raise money, so those that supported me understood that the challenge came from the heart.
“I was also promoting the exhibition to attract as large and as wide and audience as possible. I devised a weekly update on the fundraising and started it early, before the show even opened. I knew all the supporters except for one.
"He was a visitor at my exhibition who I was talking to and not only did he love the display of art, he thought that running a fundraising campaign alongside my exhibition to aid the Salvation Army’s work with the homeless and modern slavery was really good - he donated £100.”
