Rawnie
After learning about her Grandad’s close connection to The Salvation Army Rawnie and her dog Dougal embarked on an adventure of a life time by tacking the famous West Highland Way.
"My Grandad grew up in Blackburn, Lancashire in the 1920s and due to being a single parent family being raised by his father that was very rare at the time, him and his two sisters relayed on the Salvation Army for donations of clothes and food. He always spoke fondly of the Salvation Army and their help during the hard times.
My Grandad was a keen walker and completed the West Highland Way in 1989 and I thought what better way to honour his memory than do the route myself. So in August 2017, I and my dog Dougal took on the challenge carrying all our own stuff and camping all the way. The West Highland Way is 98 miles ending at Fort William. Dougal must have done double that or more.
We raised £320 all together and I came back with some very bad blisters that got infected, but it was all worth it!”
